American Airlines is launching the first non-stop service from Los Angeles to Christchurch next year.
As part of its Australasian joint venture pact with Qantas, American will start flying the route three times per week from 25 October 2020 through March 2021.
It will use Boeing 787 Dreamliner 8 series aircraft with 20 Business seats and 28 in Premium Economy.
American said it is the first carrier to operate the route.
American passengers will be able to connect on Qantas and Jetstar operated flights from Christchurch to Wellington and Melbourne.
The very same day, American will also launch flights from Dallas Fort Worth to Auckland
“Now we’re able to get customers from places like Louisville, Savannah or Monterrey, Mexico all the way to New Zealand with just one stop,” said Vasu Raja, AA’s senior vice president of network strategy.
The carrier also flies seasonally from Los Angeles to Auckland.
