Baden-Baden in SouthWest Germany has long been the ideal destination for recharging batteries. And, both before and after the festive season, this stylish international spa town ticks all the boxes: natural thermal springs and soothing spas; quality luxury hotels; gourmet restaurants; tempting shops. All in a clean green environment that is even lovelier under a blanket of snow.
From late November onwards, the Christmas market sparkles; in January, you can carry out all those New Year resolutions. All at affordable prices, thanks to tempting New Year deals. Relaxing and reconnecting have never been more fun. https://visit.baden-baden.de/en
For SPA say Aaaaaah!
The Romans knew a thing or two about spas. Some 2,000 years ago, they refreshed both body and soul in Baden-Baden’s 12 thermal springs. And today’s visitors do the same in the two thermal spas. The so-called Roman-Irish Bath in the grand 150-year-old Friedrichsbad offer a unique wellness experience: a circuit of 17 consecutive, complementary treatments. The modern Caracalla Spa has everything from a Roman-style sauna and marble whirlpools to an aroma steam bath and new wellness lounge. https://visit.baden-baden.de/en/health-wellness
Christmas is coming!
There is nothing like a traditional German Christmas Market. And Baden-Baden’s is particularly elegant (November 28 till January 6, 2020). At the entrance to Baden-Baden’s Lichtentaler Allee park, in front of the Kurhaus, the “Christkindelsmarkt” is straight out of a romantic winter fairy-tale. Some 100 beautifully-decorated stalls sell locally-made art, crafts and delicious food. Unique is the “living nativity”, complete with donkeys and lambs plus daily shows and live music. Add in roasted almonds, gingerbread and mulled wine and this is the perfect winter holiday experience.
Stroll, shop and eat
In the foothills of the Black Forest, Baden-Baden is much more than a sophisticated spa destination. Explore the Museum Mile, with the world-class Museum Frieder Burda, State Art Gallery and Fabergé Museum; enjoy concerts and ballet at the Festival Hall and Kurhaus; shop in the glamorous old town’s Sophienstrasse, Lichtentaler Strasse and Kurhaus Colonnade; have a flutter at Germany’s oldest casino; eat in Michelin-starred restaurants; order authentic Black Forest gateau! And all these are within walking distance of each other! https://visit.baden-baden.de/en/shopping
See the sights…
Get the most out of Baden-Baden with a tour. Take a romantic horse-drawn carriage drive, like the aristocrats of old; climb aboard the City-Bahn, a little tourist train with heated carriages; ride on a modern Segway or join a guided tour in English for a 90-minute walk (Fridays at 2 pm from the Kurhaus Colonnade tourist office). And out in the Black Forest, try snowshoeing or cross-country skiing with a guide; take a thrill ride on a toboggan run! https://visit.baden-baden.de/en/city-tours
