Starved of guests and revenue for many months, hotels are touting themselves as the ideal vaccine administration sites.
Trade group the American Hotel & Lodging Association says its member hotels are ideally positioned to assist with the vaccine rollout in a letter to the Biden administration transition team, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other agencies.
It has nationwide coverage with 50,000 hotels in all states, and in downtown, suburban and rural communities.
“America’s hotels stand ready to work alongside America’s governors as states continue to move forward in administrating the Covid-19 vaccine,” Chip Rogers, AHLA President and CEO wrote.
“Administering the vaccine on a national level will be a significant undertaking requiring innovative solutions and collaboration. To aid in the distribution, the hotel industry is asking that hotels be considered as an option for vaccine administration sites.”
The AHLA says hotels have private rooms, meeting rooms, and large conference facilities to handle large and small numbers and can offer access for 24-hour round-the-clock vaccinations.
“By quickly mobilizing an existing network of sites, hotels can help strengthen the delivery and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine in communities across the country,” Rogers added.
Additionally, Rogers wrote, many hotels have the necessary refrigeration capabilities to store vaccines safely.
