The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will launch India’s first home grown luxury cruise itinerary this month.
In a tie-up with Cordella Cruises, IRCTC will market the cruises, which will begin next week.
The first Cordelia Cruises sailing will depart Mumbai on 18 September and will initially sail to Indian ports.
It is sailing the former Empress of the Seas which the company purchased late last year.
From May 2022 the cruise ship will reposition to Chennai and sail to destinations in Sri Lanka such as Colombo, Galle, Trincomalee and Jaffna.
“Cordelia Cruises is India’s premium cruise line. It aspires to promote and drive the cruise culture in India. It is a cruise liner for Indians catering to the way Indians love to holiday,” a statement said.
It is being called the first indigenous luxury cruise in India.
“While travelling on Cordelia Cruises, one can enjoy recreational and leisure activities such as restaurants, swimming pool, bars and open cinemas.
