Japan Airlines’ new no frills airline ZIPAIR will start nonstop flights to Hawaii later this week.
It is launching service on 19 December from Tokyo Narita to Honolulu with an initial 16 roundtrip flights through the end of January 2021.
It is being operated under the Hawaii pre-travel testing program which allows inbound travelers to skip mandatory quarantine in Hawaii on proof of a negative Covid-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before departure.
Fares are priced at $180 one way.
Bookings are available for flights only until the end of January 2021 but if it proves successful it may become a permanent route.
ZIPAIR launched in October and flies to Bangkok and Seoul.
The airline plans to add a route direct to the US West Coast within the next year or two, once it take delivery of more aircraft.
“When there’s a recovery in demand, we’ll be ready to make a fast start,” said Shingo Nishida, president of ZIPAIR.
