Jet2 and Jet2 Holidays will not return to the Balearic Islands this summer, the operator has confirmed.
In an announcement on twitter, the firm said it has taken the ‘difficult decision’ to cancel the rest of the summer programme to Ibiza, Menorca and Majorca.
But it remains hopeful of a resumption of services to other destinations currently on the government’s do-not-travel list.
Rather than a total cancellation, it has suspended its Canary Islands and mainland Spain programme until September 13 with Jet2 Holidays targeting a return to Croatia on September 14.
“We are obviously very disappointed to be making this announcement [about the Balearics],” Jet2 said.
“We can assure independent travel agents, customers and our partners in the Balearic Islands that we remain completely committed to these fantastic destinations.”
Holidays to the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands and mainland Spain were thrown into turmoil last month when the government imposed a 14-day quarantine period for returning travellers and advised against all but essential travel.
The cancellation of the programme came as Jet2 said it was adding 100,000 seats to Greece, Turkey and Portugal.
