Something special for Summer 2021:
Our guided walking weeks at Mandarin & Mango Boutique Hotels, and new escorted tours to discover more of Turkey
For those who enjoy travelling, 2020 hasn’t quite turned out as planned, but we remain optimistic that before too long, we will once again be able to explore far-flung places, absorb different cultures and savour new experiences. If your travel plans were disrupted this year, making every day of your holiday time count will feel even more important than usual in 2021. Of course, any stay at Mandarin & Mango Boutique Hotels is always time well spent – relaxing in peace in our spacious grounds surrounded by unspoilt countryside, sampling our authentic Turkish cuisine and enjoying the genuine hospitality proffered by our friendly team. But perhaps one of the best ways of “making memories” is by joining one of our special interest weeks or partially escorted tours, which offer you the opportunity to discover other parts of Turkey as well as gaining an in-depth of our own delightful region.
Held on selected dates in spring and autumn, our Guided Walking Weeks are always a popular choice amongst nature-lovers and those who enjoy an active break. We explore the glorious countryside around Faralya on foot in small, friendly groups of no more than eight participants, led by Ghislain himself. Over the course of five full-day outings, we follow coastal paths and mountain trails, delight in panoramic views and lush vegetation, and visit historic sites such as the atmospheric ghost village of Kayakoy, the Byzantine monastery of Afkule and the beautifully situated archaeological site of Cadyanda. Our Walking Weeks in 2021 are scheduled for the weeks commencing 30 April, 27 September and 4 October, and participation costs just €110 per person on top of the cost of your stay at Mandarin & Mango. Whilst there is much to be explored in our own corner of Turkey – from the beautiful countryside that is right on our doorstep to numerous cultural and historical sights that lie within the scope of a day-trip from Mandarin & Mango – we understand that many of our guests who travel from further afield wish to combine a relaxing stay at our hotel with the opportunity to explore other parts of this stunningly diverse country, and this is why we have devised our partially escorted touring itineraries. For 2021, we have created two new tours: “Discover the Homeland of Father Christmas” running from 15 May to 4 June, and “The Cradle of Civilisation” from 12 June to 4 July (both tours can be shortened for those who have limited time, depending on your particular interests).
Although nowadays we associate Father Christmas (or Santa Claus as he is known in some countries) with the North Pole or at least the Nordic countries, the real-life bishop upon whose generosity this figure is based – Saint Nicholas of Myra – actually came from Asia Minor. In addition to his home town, this tour visits some of the other sites associated with Saint Nicholas, as well as many of Turkey’s most important sights, including Istanbul and Ephesus. Those opting for the full 20-night itinerary will also enjoy a three-night cruise along the beautiful Turquise Coast aboard a traditional wooden gulet and discover the unique region of Cappadocia.
Our “Cradle of Civilisation” tour stretches all the way from Istanbul to south-east Turkey, taking in such sights as Mount Nemrut, the site of the world’s first known university in Harran, and the oldest surviving Syriac Orthodox monastery at Deyrulumur, as well as a day trip to the Greek island of Rhodes and visits to internationally-famed archaeological sites such as Ephesus.
In addition to these new itineraries, we will once again offer our “Turkish Triangle” (from 5 to 16 May 2021), which enables you to combine your stay at Mandarin & Mango with a city break in the bustling metropolis of Istanbul and a few days exploring the unique landscapes and architecture of the Cappadocia region.
