JAPAN IN THE SPRINGTIME
2020 is a great year to travel to Japan. Ever gracious, you can count on Japan’s high standard of hospitality as the nation prepares to host the 32nd Olympic Summer Games in July and August of 2020. Spring presents one of the best times for a hiking trip to Japan. We’d love to have you join us on one of the following springtime trips:
Hike from temple to temple on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage featured on our springtime Shikoku Temple Trek 1 and Shikoku Temple Trek 3trips. Since the Shikoku Pilgrimage is a circular route you can begin the pilgrimage anywhere meaning that first time participants can join us on either trip. Both Shikoku trips are filling quickly and only three spaces remain on the Shikoku Temple Trek 1 trip.
Or, join us on our deluxe Kumano Kodo trip. This ancient Japanese pilgrimage has been featured in the New York Times, CNN, USA Today, Conde Nast Traveler, and Travel+Leisure. Come see what the excitement is about! Our trip features first class lodgings, at least two guided hiking choices per day, hot spring baths and vehicle support throughout the trip.
And if you’re interested in exploring the Shikoku Pilgrimage during autumn, we offer our Shikoku Temple Trek 2 in late October / early November.
MOUNTAINS IN THE NEWS
It’s cooler in the mountains!
Hikers are rewarded with cooler temperatures in the mountains. You will lose an average 3.5 degrees Fahrenheit for every 1,000 feet of elevation you gain on a hike. On the Best Hikes of the Dolomites trip, this means if its a sunny 90 degree summer day in Bolzano where the trip begins, when you step off the top of the Groste lift to hike (more than 7,300 feet higher than Bolzano) the temperature is about 65 degrees! Perfect temperature for a day on the trail! Read more about calculating mountain hiking temperatures.
Celebrate hiking in Japan, or the 2020 Summer Olympics, with this new cookbook. Originally from California, Nancy Singleton Hachisu has lived in Japan for decades with her Japanese husband and three sons. She writes eloquently about Japanese food, distilling the taste to basic ingredients and techniques accessible to all. Read the Conde Nast Traveler review, and explore’s Nancy website.
