Vietnam’s newest airline has been unveiled.
Vietnam Travel Aviation Company Limited, doing business as Vietravel Airlines, was officially launched on 26 December after meeting all requirements for operating commercial flights.
It becomes Vietnam’s sixth airline.
It will start selling tickets from 1 January 2021, according to General Director of Vietravel Airlines, Vu Duc Bien.
It has taken delivery of its first Airbus aircraft and will receive two more in the coming weeks.
It hopes to have up to 10 planes within five years.
Its route network will focus on Hue and tourist destinations in the central coast region from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, while travel restrictions remain due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Then it plans to expand to other domestic destinations, and eventually to cities across the ASEAN region, Bien said.
The airline is based at Phu Bai International Airport and is targeting one million passengers in its first year of operation.
It is backed by Vietravel, one of the country’s largest tour operators.
