The first electric-powered aircraft test flight in Scotland has taken to the skies. Ampaire’s six-seater Cessna Skymaster has an electric motor powering one of its twin engines. It is the first hybrid aircraft to fly at the sustainable aviation facility based at Kirkwall airport in the Orkneys.
It completed a 50-mile flight across open water between Orkney and Wick. The plane was retrofitted and then underwent test flights in Hawaii before arriving in Scotland. It takes about 90 minutes of rapid charging to provide around one hour of flight.
