Singapore Airlines became the first major airline to test IATA’s new digital health verification app Travel Pass.
It allows passengers to store information related to their Covid-19 test results and vaccination status.
It started trialling the service before Christmas on routes to Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta.
If successful it could be expanded across the SIA route network.
Customers who take tests at designated clinics receive a QR code which can be verified by the secure mobile app to ensure they meet Singapore’s entry requirements.
It helps to significantly speed up processing at check-in and immigration.
IATA’s Timatic registry provides the back-end information required to meet Covid-19 testing and entry requirements.
“Covid-19 tests and vaccinations will be an integral part of air travel for the foreseeable future. We are offering a digital solution that allows the easy and secure verification of this information,” said JoAnn Tan, Acting SIA’s Senior Vice President Marketing Planning.
The airline plans to integrate the process into its own mobile app by mid-2021
Nick Careen, IATA’s Senior Vice President, Airport, Passenger, Cargo, and Security said: “This will help ensure that SIA’s customers will be among the first to benefit as governments reopen their borders with testing or vaccination requirements.”
