Genting Cruise Lines reported brisk business for its ‘cruises to nowhere’ itineraries.
Genting said the Dream Cruises short sailings have bagged 6,000 bookings in the five days since reservations opened.
There will be a total of 23 cruise to nowhere sailings operated by Dream Cruises in November and December.
Each reduced occupancy sailing has a maximum capacity of 1,700 passengers.
“The response has been overwhelming. The ship itself is the destination,” said Michael Goh, head of International Sales at Genting Cruise Lines
Only Dream and Royal Caribbean have been approved to operate by the Singapore Tourism Board.
Royal Caribbean says its first sailing on 1 December is almost sold out.
This proves there is ‘pent-up desire to travel’ says Angie Stephen, Managing Director of Royal Caribbean operations in Asia Pacific.
Starting prices on both cruise lines are between S$359 and $599 per person.
All passengers are required to take a Covid-19 test before embarkation and social distancing measures will be in effect on the ships.
