The Transportation Security Administration extended the federal mandate for all travelers to wear masks on planes and within airports. It also applies to buses and trains. The requirement was due to expire on 11 May but will now continue through 13 September.
Fines can be imposed for refusing to wear masks which range from $250 up to $1,500 for repeated violations. On commercial carriers, flight bans are more likely. Airlines have banned more than 2,000 passengers for failing to follow mask requirements.
